TheStrength
2025
Faceted stone composite, glass, integrated light, steel base

N° 009 / 020
Strength is not stillness. It is two opposing forces that have agreed to hold something between them.
The Strength does not resolve its tension. It uses it. The geometric masses push outward from the center, and the glass above rests on that conflict as if it were the most stable thing in the room. Because it is.
The light inside does not illuminate what sits on top. It illuminates the structure itself. The architecture of what it takes to hold.

The Strength is the only piece designed to be lived with horizontally. The structure beneath the glass is not a base — it is the work. Two masses of geometric maple pushing against each other from opposite sides, locked in tension that becomes support. The light source at the center was not decorative. I needed to see how the facets behaved from inside the form. Once it was there I understood it had to stay. The brushed steel platform lifts the whole thing just enough to let the light breathe underneath.
