Some gestures require everything to be removed except the gesture itself.
The Reach does not explain what it is reaching toward. It does not need to. The form narrows from the earth upward, thinning as it rises, spending itself in the direction of something the darkness above does not reveal.
The light comes from below. From the ground. From what holds the form in place while it extends beyond what should be possible.
That is where reaching always starts. Not from above. From what is solid underneath.

The Reach is the most reduced piece in the studio. One continuous form from the raw stone base to the tip — no interruption, no ornamentation, no edges competing for attention. The walnut was chosen for its willingness to thin without fracturing. I worked it down over months until the point at the top became a question of physics as much as craft. The light comes from the base, from the stone, as if the earth itself is what makes the ascent possible. Without that source below, there is no reach above.
