Carved walnut, integrated light, illuminated base

The Muse

018 / 020

Inspiration does not arrive in one form. That is the first thing The Muse makes clear.

The upper section moves. Each position is a different piece, a different relationship between the forms, a different shadow on the wall. The person who places it becomes part of the work. What they choose to show says something about what they are looking for.

The maple holds the light from below without color, without warmth. Just clarity. What you do with that clarity is yours.

Studio note

Alberto Palomino — Montréal, September 2026

The Muse is the only piece in the studio that moves. The upper section rotates freely — each position creates a different composition, a different tension between the three wing-like forms. I embedded steel ball joints at each junction so the movement would have resistance, weight, intention. You cannot spin it carelessly. It asks to be placed deliberately. The maple was chosen for its lightness relative to its strength — the piece needs to hold its position wherever it is set. The illuminated base below does not light the sculpture. It marks the ground it stands on.
