TheHero
2025
Carved hardwood, integrated light, column-walnut base

N° 019 / 020
A hero is not someone who has no fear. It is someone who moves anyway.
The form does not stand. It strides. The cape rises behind it not from wind but from velocity, from the commitment of a body that has already decided. The vertical light beside it is not illumination. It is the line that separates before from after.
Every figure that has ever done something worth remembering passed through a moment like this one. When the ground was still under their feet and the air was already different on the other side.
The oak holds the base flat. Everything above it is already gone.

The Hero is the most kinetic piece I have made. The form moves in three directions simultaneously — the cape or flag above, the striding legs below, the torso twisting between them — and the vertical light element was not added as a backdrop. It defines the threshold the figure is crossing. Without that line of light, the figure is simply moving. With it, the figure is crossing from one state into another. The oak base anchors everything below while the form above it refuses to be still. That conflict between the fixed and the moving is the piece.
