We expect a mirror to show us what we are. It shows us what we face.
The two forms of The Mirror rose from the same material and arrived at different shapes. Close enough to recognize each other. Different enough to remain apart. They lean toward the same point at the top and stop just before contact, because recognition and understanding are not the same thing.
The walnut is identical in both. The grain runs the same direction. What changed was the hand, the angle, the moment. That is enough to make two entirely different things from one truth.

The Mirror started as one form. I cut it in half expecting symmetry and found the opposite. The two pieces diverged immediately — same walnut block, same tools, different results. I kept the difference. One reaches inward, the other outward. They lean toward each other at the top without touching, and that gap between them became the subject of the piece. The black marble holds them on a single base because they are not two objects. They are one thing that discovered it had two sides.
