The Infinite

026 / 031

The infinite is not a quantity. It is a direction that never exhausts itself.

One form rises, bends, and keeps going. It does not close because closing would be a conclusion, and this piece is not about conclusions. It is about the sustained gesture — the curve that holds its own becoming without reaching a destination.

Black walnut gives the form its depth. Mahogany gives it its warmth. Together they make a motion that feels as if it had always been in progress, long before it was carved and long after the light around it fades.

Studio note

Alberto Palomino — Montréal, August 2026

The Infinite came from a single continuous curve I drew and refused to resolve. Every time I reached what looked like a natural end, the form insisted on continuing. I stopped fighting it. The walnut holds the darker descent, the mahogany carries the lighter rise, and the point where they meet is not a joining — it is a handoff. The piece lives in that transfer, in the sense that something is always being passed forward. The base is narrow because the form does not need a wide foundation. It needs permission to keep moving.
