The equinox is the moment balance becomes visible. Day and night hold the same weight for one brief instant before one begins to pull ahead of the other.
This piece marks that threshold. Six points of light radiate from a central spine, three above and three below, as if the form were simultaneously ascending and descending. The maple carries the upward beams, the mahogany absorbs the lower ones. Neither wins.
That is the point. Balance is not a stable state. It is a precise crossing, a held breath, the exact instant when two opposing forces agree to meet.

The Equinox came from a wall in the studio that received no direct light. I wanted to build a fixture that did not merely illuminate but divided the room into equal halves of shadow and warmth. The maple and mahogany blocks were cut to the same scale but behave differently under the source — one reflects, one drinks. The beams are not decorative. They are the argument the piece makes about balance.
