To fall is not to fail. It is to abandon the vertical contract we make with the ground.
The Fall captures that exact breach. The figure leans past its center, arms open, spine curved like a question. Maple gives the reaching body its pale urgency; black walnut holds the base in darker gravity. The light rises from below, as if the floor itself is still trying to hold what the air has already claimed.
There is no impact here. Only the beautiful, frozen second before the world remembers what must happen next.

The Fall began with a small carved figure I kept knocking over on purpose. I liked how it looked just before it toppled — the instant when balance becomes drama. I carved this larger version from maple and set it on a black walnut base so the contrast would do the work of a shadow. The upward light source was added last; it makes the piece feel like the fall is happening in both directions at once.
