A dot is the simplest mark. It has no direction, no edge, no argument. And yet every line begins from one.
The Dot is that beginning made solid. Maple and mahogany curve toward the same center without ever fully arriving. The bulb sits at the meeting point, not as decoration, but as the reason the curves exist. The light is the dot. The wood is the motion that surrounds it.
The piece is vertical because a dot seen from above is a circle, but a dot seen from the side is a journey. Stand before it and you are standing at the start of a line that has not yet been drawn.
N°01Studio note

The Dot came from a sketch so small it fit in the margin of a notebook. Two curved strokes meeting at a point. I built the first mock-up from shop scraps and left it on a shelf for weeks. Every time I passed it, the silhouette held my attention. I eventually scaled it up, choosing maple for its refusal to compete and mahogany for the warmth it leaves behind. The exposed bulb was the only honest choice — a hidden light would have turned the dot into a secret.
