A chain is usually read as restraint. But a chain is also the shape of continuity — one part passing its force to the next without ever letting go.
The Chain is made of two woods that do not behave the same way. Mahogany carries the dark, descending curve. Maple holds the lighter, rising one. They are joined by visible hardware, not hidden, because the connection is the subject.
The piece does not close. It arcs. It reaches from one point to another and leaves the space between open, as if the next link has not yet been decided.
That is the nature of any real bond. It is strong enough to hold, and honest enough to show how.

The Chain began as a study in tension between two woods. Mahogany gave the form its gravity, maple gave it its lift. I left the bolts and hardware exposed because hiding them would have made the connection seem effortless, and effort is part of the meaning. The scale is intimate but the reach feels larger than the dimensions suggest — the arc wants to continue beyond its own ends.
