TheArc

Carved hardwood, internal light source, granite plinth

N° 006 / 019
Some things carry their light inside them.
Not as a feature. As a condition. The Arc does not reflect what falls on it from above. It holds warmth within the curve and releases it slowly, the way certain people illuminate a room without intending to.
The form bends without breaking. It opens without losing its structure. The rosewood grain follows the arc as if the tree had grown this way deliberately, already knowing what it would become.
The light inside is not decoration. It is the reason the form exists at all.

Alberto Palomino — Montréal, June 2025
The Arc is the only piece where the light source is internal from the beginning. Not added afterward, not reconsidered. The curve was designed around the cavity that would hold the light, and everything else followed from that decision. The rosewood opened in a way I had not planned — the grain curved with the form as if it had been waiting for this shape. I did not fight it. The granite base keeps it grounded because without that weight at the bottom, the whole piece reads as floating. It needs to be rooted to earn its light.
