TheSentinel

Blackened cast iron cross, bronze plinth

N° 015 / 020
A sentinel does not move. That is its function and its discipline.
It stands where others pass through and remembers everything. The Sentinel rises to a single point — not a gesture, not a reach, simply a direction maintained without deviation.
The shadow on the wall behind it is not one shape. It spreads like something witnessed rather than something cast.
The room is different with The Sentinel in it. Not louder. More accountable.

Alberto Palomino — Montréal, February 2026
The Sentinel demanded height above everything else. The rosewood was selected for a single reason: at this scale, it needed to carry warmth without softness. The upward taper was not designed from the top down — I worked from the base and let the form find its own point. The single opening mid-body was the last decision. A sentinel that has no vulnerability is not watching. It is just standing. That hollow changed the piece from presence into attention. The brushed steel base roots it without ceremony.
